DOALG charity

Diary of a Lincoln Geek regularly fundraise for causes important to the team through charity drives including, most famously, our 24 hour tabletop gaming marathons that happen each Star Wars Day (May 4th).

To date, we've raised:

£1,245

for leading causes across the UK.

On this page, we'll take a look back at some of our previous fundraising activities.

roll for calm 2023

On May 4th 2023, we raised £410 for a charity new to us, but close to our hearts: Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), who provide services & resources to help save the lives of people considering suicide in the UK, and support families & friends bereaved by suicide.

Chris, Sam, Gregor & Pete once again subjected themselves to 24 hours of non-stop tabletop gaming (and each other's company), and Chris had the extra challenge of painting a miniature for the Horizon Zero Dawn board game for every £100 raised. We also learnt our lesson this time and managed to get YouTube to archive the stream for us, which you can watch using the button below.

may the 4th

We livestreamed Star Wars games for 24 hours on May 4th (and 5th) 2022 and raised £585 for Dementia UK, who provide dementia specialist Admiral Nurses across Britain.

Several of the #DOALG team have family or friends with dementia and know all too well the effect this condition can have, not just on those people with the disease, but also on their friends, families, and caregivers.

Unfortunately the livestream was too long for YouTube to save it, so it will remain a unique experience for all the DOALG team there, and those of you who managed to catch it live. Subscribe to us on YouTube so you don't miss when we go live again next time!

raise your game

On 6th November 2021, we ran an in-person competition at Geek Retreat Lincoln, fundraising for Dementia UK.

Each competitor paid a £5 donation to enter into a league of five games: Forbidden Island, Carcassonne, Settlers of Catan, Star Realm: Frontiers, and Lords of Waterdeep.

We were also very grateful for the games donated as prizes by Bevan from Tinkerbot Games (Ghostel) and Paul & James from Stone Sword Games (Senjutsu, Hogs of War, and Hogs of War: The Card Game).

game for us

We livestreamed digital board games for 24 hours on May 4th 2021 and raised £250 as part of Game For Us 2021, the fundraising campaign for SpecialEffect, the charity who enable physically disabled people to use adaptive technology for communication & leisure.
